Sana’a :The History & Civilization.
[04/August/2004] Arrangements are underway to hold an international conference themed “ Sana’a : The History & Civilization”.

The event is scheduled to take place late of this month. The function is co-organized by Sana’a University and Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The conference is due to be held with a great deal of participation. Around (100) of scientists , historians and researchers from Arab and other parts of the world is to take part in the conference.

A package of topics will be discussed in the function which aims to draw attention to Sana’a and Yemen’s affairs. Sana’a’ s role throughout the history is to top the list of the conference questions.

Ever since Sana’a was designated to be the Arab cultural capital for 2004 , the old city has been given much attention and top priority in the repairing and innovating projects to keep its unique architectural style and preserve its historical landmarks.

A wide campaign was launched aimed at re-innovating the facades color of its buildings and erasing the modernity’s effects.

Several projects are being carried out in the old city , on top of which is maintaining the urban cultural heritage of the city. The three-phases- project is financed by the UNISCO, with total cost up to ($US500,000) dollar First phase - an overall survey targeted a pilot zone’s outline in the old city- was accomplished in last March. Second phase launched this week by the Italian professional expedition led by the famous Prof. Daniel Bety and Yemeni experts team.
The UNISCO had dispatched in January 2004 an specialized delegation to carry out a preliminary survey of an entirely maintaining scheme of the old city.

A lot of intellectual , musical , artistic and cultural functions had been organized to celebrate this occasion. Scientific seminars and symposiums about the city’s history and arts frequently held .

The recent one was a two-day scientific seminar entitled “ Sana’a the history and civilization” . Many intellectuals, historians, archeologists and experts took part in the function .
The most prominent of the participants are: Dr. Yousef Mohammed Abdullah , Dr. Husein Al-Amri, Dr. Abdo Uthman and the French Researcher Mrs. Marin .
