IOM expels 312 Ethiopians from Yemen

HODEIDAH, Nov. 14 (Saba) - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has expelled about 312 Ethiopians, including 13 women from Yemen to their home via Hodeidah airport for entering Yemen illegally.

The IOM Emergency and Post Conflict Officer Mario Lito Malanca said the IOM has departed the first group of Ethiopian migrants, out of 2000, who are stranded in Haradh border area.

Departure process is carried out according to a modern mechanism of voluntary repatriation for migrants in cooperation with United Nations (UN) and its partners, he said.

Malanca also made clear that the IOM is working to assist the illegal migrants to start a new life due to the difficult circumstances they are experiencing.

He expressed appreciation of the Yemeni government for facilitating the migrants' voluntary repatriation, affirming the IOM would continue its work in expelling the rest Ethiopian migrants after Eid al-Adha vacation.

For his part, the IOM representative in Yemen Fawzi al-Zyoud said the migrants would be departed to Addis Ababa on two flights, valuing Yemen's efforts in easing the repatriation.

Al-Zyoud said that a working team at Haradh border area containing a consul form the Ethiopian Embassy is registering those, who want to return home and provide them with the required travel documents.
