Yemen participates in WTM exhibition in London

LONDON, Nov. 10 (Saba) - Yemen is participating in World Travel Market (WTM) exhibition being currently held in London's ExCeL centre.

On the exhibition's sidelines, a press conference has been held in the Yemeni wing, in which deputy ambassador of Yemen to the UK Abdul-Malek al-Iriyani talked about Yemen's tourist advantages and components as well as the efforts exerted by Yemen to combat terrorism.

Speaking on the ban issued by some countries on Yemeni flights, al-Iriyani said that it has affected badly tourist industry in the country, whose national economy depends mainly on it.

Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) Taleb Rifai pointed out that Yemen has managed during the past ten years to shift from a modesty country into a successful one in tourist sector.

WTO is obliged to stand beside Yemen in this crucial time, Rifai said, adding it is not wise to ban all tourist flights to Yemen, which is exactly what terrorists desire.

The tourist advisor at the Yemeni Embassy in London said Yemen participates in WTM exhibition annually, noting that a number of promotional deals have been signed with about six foreign companies.

WTM exhibition kicked off on November 8 and will end on November 11, in which about 190 countries takes part in addition to around 46,000 participants, including tourist ministers, experts and journalists.
