GIA lists 21 projects at YR19, 304 bln in 1st half of 2009

SANA'A, July 04 (Saba) - The General Investment Authority (GIA) has registered 21 foreign projects in the first half of 2009 at a total cost of YR19, 304 billion compared with 26 projects at total cost of YR 54,258 billion listed during the same period of last year.

According to GIA's statistics, the registered projects distributed between 13 investors from 13 Arab and foreign countries.

Regarding the cost, Iraqi investment projects came in the first rank with YR11,133,838,000 ,while Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was ranked first in terms of number of projects with 4 projects at a cost of YR4.68 billion followed by Kuwait with 2 projects at a cost of YR3.955 billion.

The statistics pointed that 2 Lebanese projects at a cost of YR74.7 million were registered in the first half of 2009, in addition to 2 Jordanian projects at a cost of YR43.349 million and one British project at a cost of YR150 million.

An Emirates YR70 million project was registered in addition to a Turkish YR40 million project, an Iranian 55 million project, and a Chinese YR 40 million project, the statistics indicated.

Furthermore, an Egyptian YR28.8 million project and YR20 million project for each of Syria and India were listed as well.

The projects registered during the first half of the current year will make available about 721 work opportunities.
