Yemen to improve policies of imported goods

SANA'A, March 18 (Saba)- The Yemen Standardization, Metrology, Quality Control Organization (YSMO) plans to apply International Product Conformity Certification Program (IPCCP) to examine imported goods from abroad, almotamar.net said on Tuesday.

The deputy manager of the YSMO Ahmed al-Bashah was quoted as saying that the imported goods would be checked before freight through contracting with internationally acknowledged companies to ensure consumer safety and avoid counterfeit goods.

Furthermore the organization is to amend laws and legislations according to which industrial institutions would be subject to technical international systems such as conformity certificate,industry quality and quality mark, al-Bashah said.

All these measures come within Yemen's efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), he added.

The organization also intends to open branches at three customs passages within the 2008 executive plan.

Al-Bashah said the measures will contribute to raising the domestic products capability to be able of competing at national and international markets and to gain consumer trust.
