Saba News Agency is the official news agency of the Republic of the Yemen. It was established in 1970 by the former Yemen Arab Republic (north of Yemen). After Yemen's Reunification on May 22, 1990, Saba was officially combined with Aden News Agency of the former Yemen Democratic Republic (south of Yemen) to be Yemen News Agency (Saba).
The agency Saba is a member in the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) and a member in the Organization of Asian News Agencies (OANA). It is also a member of the Federation of Arab News Agencies and a member in the Non-Alignment countries News Agencies pool and has agreements of news service exchange with some Arab and foreign agencies.
Saba usual daily work extends to 18 hours a day, but it extends work to 24 hours in case of important hot events or developments. Some departments have different shifts almost around the clock.
Saba covers all events and developments at the domestic, Arab and international level. When Yemen hosts any Arab or international event, Saba used to have a media center to cover he event and provide subscribers, including official TVs, Radios and newspapers, with news. It also has offices and correspondents in most of Yemen's 22 provinces, equipped with computers and technical means to send the headquarters news about any event takes place in those provinces.
Saba is using the most up-to-date technology communications and techniques in receiving, editing and sending news.
The Main Departments of the Agency:
1- The General Department of Local News:
It handles news from Saba offices and correspondents in provinces
2- The General Department of Electronic Press
It handles the SMS news service Saba has recently launched. It also manages the Saba website, Sabanet, in Arabic and English.
3- The General Department of Editing News:
It re-edits news from Arab and international newswires to provide the subscribers, according to singed agreements.
Saba has also a Studies and Researches Center which publishes books on most important local and international events. It offers necessary documentary services to researchers and official circles.
On May 22, 2007, Yemen News Agency (Saba) started to publish a daily newspaper, Al-Syasiyah, which covers domestic, Arab and international developments, interviews, files on specific subjects and translation of articles, written in English, French and German, on the most important Arab or international issues into Arabic.
