  About Yemen
POLITICAL SYSTEM.
[08/November/2004] Political regime in the republic of Yemen is based on pluralism and multi-parties . Constitution and laws have guaranteed the rights of peaceful enterchange of power and to participate in the process of decision making directly and indirectly. Article (4) of the constitution stated that : power rests with the people who is the source of all powers. The people shall exercise its power directly through general referenda and elections and also indirectly through legislative, executive and judicial bodies and the elected local councils.

The Head of State.
President of the republic is the head of state. His mandates include assigning the prime minister , appointing members of the Shura council , dissolving House of representatives , calling for election and referenda . President Ali Abdullah Saleh has been taking the office since the 22nd of May 1990. Presidency tenure is 7 years confined to only two terms.

The Government.
The prime minister is appointed by the president of the republic and forms the government in consultation with him. Mr. Abdulkader Ba Jammal holds the post since April 2001. He re-assigned in the office in April 2003, following the parliamentary election held at the same time.

Legislative Authority.
Legislative Authority in the Republic of Yemen is bicameral .The House of Representatives includes (301) members elected directly through fair and secretly balloting for six years term. The Shura Council consisted of (111) members appointed by the president of the republic.
