[05/October/2003] The first edition of “ Yemen and Great States “ ( part- 1) published by the Center of Studies and Researches of Saba News Agency, came out in last January .

The book has folded analytical studies and documentary alike on Yemen’s ties with the five permanent member states of the Security Council.

The Issue contains 494 medium pages and includes five chapters.
The first one , dealt with Yemen’s relationships with the United States of America. The second embodied the relations between Yemen and the former, Soviet Union.

Third chapter was dedicated to Yemen’s ties with the United Kingdom. The fourth enclosed the relationship of Yemen with the Republic of France. The last one contained Yemeni-Chinese relations.

The book included an informative studied on Yemen’s relationships with each one of the aforementioned states, in away that combined the analytical approach and the documentary one. It handled the relations of Yemen with each state separately as follow:

With respect to Yemen’s relationships with the United State, the book focused on this issue, during the period ( 1945-2001) , as it witnessed the most significant interactions in the history of the relations between the two countries, which eventually had experienced a couple of stages.

The first, spanned over the period (1945-1989) that was known as the cold war stage, while the second one , has begun since the collapse of eastern-block led by Soviet Union and the newly global system appeared , after the former American president Gorge Bush had called for it , in 1990.
Throughout the two phases, Yemeni-American ties had been stamped by different characteristics and had several transforms , hence this study is of high significance, because it aims to discern the most important features of these relationships and the changes they were subjected to , in an attempt to come out with conclusions and recommendations that might be useful for the decision makers to go on further cooperation and bolstering the ties up between the two countries.

Second chapter of the book , spots lights on the relationships between Yemen and the exe- Soviet Union , therefore it has terraced the historical course of Russia’s ties with Yemen throughout the 20 century. The book reviewed the relations between the two countries , ever since they had begun over the monarchy’s reign in the north part of Yemen, then with the republican regimes in the two parts of the country, and after that with the Yemeni-single state since it has declared as the republic of Yemen.

Third chapter folds a full analytical study on the relations of Yemen with the UK. It provides much details about these relationships which dated back to the 17th century and divided into four main stages as follow:
The first, had started at the outset of the 17th century and continued until the end of the Ottomans ruling in the northern part of the country.
Second stage of Yemeni- British ties is pertaining to the reign of Yemeni Mutwaklate Kingdom (1918-1962).

Third, the UK’s relations with the two republican regimes set up in the country after the 26th of Sept. 1962 revolution in the northern part, and the 14th of Oct. in the south.
Fourth stage of Yemen’s relationships with the Great Kingdom kicked –off in 1990 upon the reunification of the country.

The fourth chapter of the book, shed lights on the deep rooted relationships between Yemen and France. The ties between the two countries had emerged in the 17th century and kept up as distinguished till Yemen reunified in a single state in 1990. Ever since that time, these relations has entered a new era, taking into account the latest development that took place around the world. The study embodies invaluable information about this area and came out to insightful visions and conclusion about the prospective of these relationships.

The last chapter, talks about the Yemeni- Chinese relationships that set of in 1956 and ever since they have been going on deeper and stronger day after day in the various fields.
