Yemen welcomes Arab fish investments
[16/December/2014]

ALGIERS, Dec.16 (Saba) – Minister of Fisheries Wealth Fahad Kefayen said on Tuesday that Yemen welcomes the Arab investments in the fisheries area and will provide all facilities for them.

Yemen has sought and still to create an Arab council for fisheries wealth at a ministerial level or organization within the framework of the Arab League like the rest of organizations and specialized bodies, Kefayen said at the opening of the fifth Arab conference on the fisheries resources and food security held in Algiers during December 16 –15.

The minister stressed the need to unify Arab positions and visions in order to protect Arab interests and exploit and invest marine resources and issue legislation and codes of conduct and regulations to regulate fishing.

He emphasized the importance of the fish wealth in achieving Arab food security.

The fish farming experience and aquaculture in the Arab world is still simple and humble, while Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reports indicate that the aquafarming represents 43% of the world's fish production, Kefayen said.
