SANA’A, 28 Oct. (Saba)- Yemen is planning to construct a facility for the rehabilitation of the Yemeni detainees who the US has agreed to release them from the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, a Yemeni official said.
In comments to the state-run Al-Thawra daily, Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi attributed the delay in the repatriation of Yemeni detainees held in Guantanamo to US procedures and laws as well as contrasting visions between the two US political parties on Guantanamo detainees fate.
"Unfortunately, whenever we reach the consensus on the Guantanamo detainees, we take two steps back”, al-Qirbi said.
"A meeting of specialists from Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the European Union was held to mull over the construction of the rehabilitation facility", he stressed.
“We are currently planning to construct this facility and taking the legal procedures for the return of 55 people who the US has agreed to send them home. Those are who do not pose a threat", the Foreign Minister added.
Meanwhile, al-Qirbi revealed that Yemen is currently mulling over the implementation of a national project aiming to fight terrorism, hoping its implementation begin very soon.
He pointed out that the project is to "focus on a religious and cultural dialogue and job creation”, adding the security act is “the least solution".
