Yemen, UNHCR review preparations for holding conference on refugees

SANA'A, Oct. 27 (Saba) - Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi met here on Sunday with acting representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Yemen Bruno Geddo.

During the meeting, al-Qirbi and Geddo reviewed the ongoing preparations for holding a regional conference on refugees and migration from the Horn of Africa to Yemen scheduled for 11 - 13 November 2013 in Sana'a, organized by the Yemeni government in cooperation with the UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in addition to the areas of cooperation between Yemen and the UNHCR.

The Foreign Minister praised the activity being carried out by the UNHCR in the country in the humanitarian fields, stressing Yemen's keenness to prepare well for the regional conference in order to achieve the desired results.

Geddo underlined the UNHCR's commitment to continue to support Yemen's efforts to address the refugees' issues from the Horn of Africa and alleviate the burden borne by Yemen in this regard.

He expressed appreciation to the Yemeni government of its continued cooperation with the UNHCR.
