President : Yemen Friends meeting in New York is successful
[28/September/2012]

NEW YORK, Sep.28 (Saba)- President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi confirmed ,in a press conference held Thursday in New York, that the fourth meeting of Friends of Yemen was successful.

The Friends of Yemen meeting dealt with all issues relating to the developments at the Yemeni arena, as well as the progress of the peaceful transition of power in Yemen in accordance with the Gulf initiative and its operational mechanism and the obstacles that stand before it.

At a press conference with British Foreign Secretary William Hague at the conclusion of the meeting, the president pointed out that the Gulf initiative signed by the political forces in Yemen and its executive mechanism set out two phases include the the peaceful and smooth transition of power, which has been implemented, while the second phase, which includes the preparation for the national dialogue, is being implemented and a technical committee was formed to prepare for the dialogue conference.

He expressed his hope that the conference begins before the end of this year and that it should continue to the month of May of next year and discuss all Yemeni issues and Yemen's new constitution and the principles of good governance.

The work is underway to restructure the institutions of the army and security forces, he explained, pointing out that this restructuring begun and will continue through the transitional period and will continue after this stage.

He noted that Yemen faced three crises at the political, security and economic levels.

" We are facing divisions in the army and divisions in the security forces", he said, indicating that the treatments in this regard are now going excellently.

On the economic aspect, Hadi pointed out that there were two donor conferences in Riyadh in May and in September 4, where the announced pledges to support Yemen reached $ 6.4 billion,” And today in the Friends of Yemen meeting in New York, the pledges exceeded $ 1.4 billion."

President considered that providing this support for Yemen by the donor countries and organizations will contribute to the success of the process of peaceful transition of power and the transitional phase for the fact that the economic problem in Yemen forms 70 percent of the challenges at present.
