Decree on 2011 human rights violations issued
[22/September/2012]
SANA'A, Sep. 22 (Saba)- A republican decree was issued on Saturday, establishing and forming a panel to investigate the alleged violations of human rights which occurred during 2011.

The decree 140 (2012) states the panel is to carry out transparent and independent investigations into human rights violations which took place in the country in the last year.

It also states the panel should act according to international and national standards and laws and under the United Nations Security Council resolutions on Yemen.

The decree entitled the panel to interrogate suspects to identify those who formulated the policies behind all human rights violations during 2011 and to refer to court anybody seen as involved in that.

The timetable for completing the job was set at six months and the committee can prolong it if necessary.

Under the decree, women will be represented by not less than 30 per cent of the 11-member committee.
