Senior official: existence of U.S marines in Yemen is exceptional, temporary case
[16/September/2012]
SANA'A, Sep.16 (Saba) – A senior official at the government affirmed Sunday that the government and the cabinet have the same attitude towards the presence of any foreign forces in Yemen and the existence of the small unit of American marines inside the U.S embassy in Sana'a is an exceptional and temporary case.

Talking to the Chinese News Agency (Xinhua), the source pointed out that the mission of the American soldiers is confined to protect the embassy's staff and when the security situation stabilizes this unit will immediately leave the country.

The 50 American marines have arrived to Yemen after the Thursday's riots at the U.S embassy, the source said, adding the options which were presented to the official authorities after storming the embassy were difficult, and the closure of the embassy was one of them which in turn would lead to many negative implications affecting the national interests.

It also made reference to the division in security and military institutions that led to weakening the protection of the American embassy and enabled some protesters to storm it, urging to mobilize all efforts to unify the two military and security institutions in Yemen in order to ensure their efficiency in spreading security and peace in the country.

In the same statement's context, the source denied a rumor revealed in some local mass media over the arrival of 200 armored vehicles belonging to the American marines, affirming the 200 vehicles are personal ones belonging to the embassy's workers.
