USA allots $345 mln for development projects in Yemen in 2012
[05/September/2012]

RIYADH, Sep. 05 (Saba) - The USA has allocated $345 million for financing development projects in Yemen in the current year.

In his statement to Saba, US Agency for International Development (USAID) administrator Rajiv Shah said the USA would focus its aid trends to Yemen on financing small and micro-enterprises, training youths and rally the resources required to improve the economic growth indicators.

"The USA intends to assist efficiently in mobilizing resources to meet the urgent humanitarian needs in Yemen," Shah said.

It would also muster international and regional support to make the Friends of Yemen meeting scheduled for September 27 in New York succeeds, he added.

Shah described the outcomes of Riyadh donor meeting as "successful and very satisfactory".

The USAID administrator said Tuesday that the Agency would double its aid to Yemen and would allocate some funds to support the Yemeni government's transitional program for development and stability for 2012 – 2014.
