President offers condolence to Ethiopia over PM's death
[22/August/2012]

SANA'A, Aug. 22 (Saba) - President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi sent on Wednesday a condolence letter to Ethiopian President Girma Wolde-Giorgis over the death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.

In the letter, President Hadi expressed his heartfelt condolences over the death of Mr. Zenawi, who passed away on Monday night.

The death of Mr. Zenawi is not a loss of only Ethiopia but also of the region and Africa as a whole. We, in Yemen, will not forget his leading role in the formation of the Sana'a Forum, the President said.

"On behalf of the Yemeni people, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the people of Ethiopia," Hadi said.

According to media reports, Mr. Zenawi, 57, departed on Monday of an undisclosed illness. He had been at the pinnacle of Ethiopian politics since 1991, when he served as President, before becoming Prime Minister in 1995.
