Deal ends Ukraine's opposition to Yemen's accession to WTO
[25/July/2012]
SANA'A, July 25 (Saba)- Yemen and Ukraine have reached a deal to end the latter's opposition to joining Yemen to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

An official source at the Yemeni permanent delegation to the European headquarters of the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva pointed out ,in a statement to Saba, that Minister of Industry and Commerce Saad al-Din bin Taleb has reached a deal with Ukraine to end the bilateral negotiations between the two countries in the field of access to markets, which lasted more than three years, and thus Yemen completed all bilateral negotiations required to join the WTO.

According to the source, the WTO General Council at its meeting on Wednesday will be briefed on this agreement, which will be approved by the members of the organization.

Yemen still have some of technical procedures expected to be completed during the short period ahead, the source added.

Under WTO rules every country has an effective veto on new members because countries wanting to join have to agree terms with every existing member, as well as bringing domestic laws into line with those of the rest of the trading club.
