President calls on EU to present aid for Yemen's stability
[14/July/2012]

SANA'A, July 14 (Saba) - President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi called on Saturday the European Union (EU) to present assistance for the security and stability of Yemen, which is experiencing tough economic situation.

During his meeting with EU Counter-terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove, President Hadi pointed to the several difficulties Yemen is suffering from due to various impasses, the confrontations with al-Qaeda and sea piracy in Gulf of Aden.

Hadi briefed the EU official on the war Yemen has waged against al-Qaeda and nature of the new battle to be fought after the victories the military and security forces made.

The President also reviewed the steps that have been achieved under the Gulf initiative as well as the coupled obstacles, stressing that the implementation of the Gulf initiative is the only way to bring peace back to the country.

Mr. Kerchove voiced the EU's appreciation of the great attainments President Hadi has made in a record time and its strong condemnation of the terrorist arracks occurred in Yemen.

He expressed the EU understanding of the difficulties Yemen has faced and the current challenges, saying that the President's strong resolve and will would be able to tackle them.

There are some concerns over the dangerous level the terrorist attacks have reached in Yemen, Mr. Kerchove said, accenting that the security authorities have to be sturdy and determined to restore stability to the country.

He stressed that the EU backs all efforts to enhance the partnership in combating terrorism and would present all required aid in this regard.
