Army destroys al-Qaeda stronghold, retakes two areas in Shabwa
[21/June/2012]

SANA'A, June 21 (Saba) - Shabwa governor said on Thursday that the joint popular and military campaign managed to destroy a stronghold of al-Qaeda in Qarn al-Sawda.

During his meeting with leaderships of Mayfa'ah, Rawdah and Habban districts, Ali al-Ahmadi added that the campaign has regain control over al-Sa'eed and al-Naqbh areas since launched three days ago.

"The campaign will not stop until ending its task of complete elimination of al-Qaeda", the governor said.

Many of al-Qaeda militants escaped from Abyan province after the army and popular committees have recaptured its strongholds and cleansed Zinjibar, Jaar and other towns. It is expected that they have headed for Shabwa province.
