EU supports Yemen via comprehensive scheme: D'Urso
[15/May/2012]

SANA'A, May 15 (Saba) - The European Union renewed on Tuesday commitment to support Yemen via a comprehensive scheme dealing with all the challenges.

In a press conference held in Sana'a, the EU Delegation's Head and ambassador Michele Cervone d'Urso said that the EU would participate in the Yemen friends meeting in Riyadh and the donors' meeting to be held later in order to help Yemen.

He reaffirmed the Union and the international community's support to the peaceful and regular power transition in Yemen and the comprehensive reform and renewal initiated by the government and the transitional institutions. He called on all Yemeni parties to abide by the political settlement in accordance with the Gulf initiative and the UN resolution 2014 and to avoid any attempts to derail the peaceful transition process.

D'Urso urged all concerned parties to take part in the comprehensive national dialogue and "put all issues on the table of dialogue, which will exclude no one and not to set preconditions for the dialogue."

It also confirmed the EU's readiness to continue and enhance its support for Yemen, saying that the EU "will strengthen its humanitarian role in Yemen and increase aid soon."
