EU to support birth registration, documentation mechanism
[03/May/2012]

SANA'A, May 03 (Saba) – The delegation of European parliament's subcommittee on human rights asserted on Thursday the readiness to offer a technical support to set up a mechanism for birth registration and documentation.

This came by the EU delegation head Barbara Lochbihler during her meeting with Chief Justice of Supreme Court Judge Essam Abdul Wahab Al-Samawi and Minister of Justice Murshed Ali al-Arashani.

The officials discussed several issues relating to challenges facing judiciary in Yemen as well as juvenile cases and the specialized courts.

Al-Samawi reviewed efforts carried out in order to reform justice, refuting to have a juvenile who has been dispatched in Yemen for there are specialized laws and courts regarding juvenile cases.
For his part, al-Arashani made reference to difficulties impeding judiciary tasks such as legislative construction and rehabilitation of employees of the judiciary.

In return, the EU official valued the subjects which were discussed in the meeting.
