Yemenis lead political process, UN only facilitates: Bin Omar
[03/May/2012]

SANA'A, May 03 (Saba) - The United Nations (UN) role is to provide facilitations and the entire political process is led by the Yemenis themselves, the UN envoy to Yemen said on Thursday.

In a press conference held in Sana'a, Jamal Bin Omar said that the Security Council watches closely the political process in Yemen as a supporter, praising the significant political progress occurring currently in the country, regardless of the obstacles, particularly in the security and economic areas.

Bin Omar indicated that he witnessed today the handover process of the commandership of the republican guard third brigade from former commander Tariq Mohammed Saleh to the new commander Abdul-Rahman al-Haili appointed by a decree of President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

He called on all the political parties in Yemen, including youths, to back and cooperate with President Hadi to complete the executive steps of the Gulf initiative, including the military and security reconstruction and the preparation of the comprehensive national dialogue.

The UN envoy expressed his confidence that President Hadi will call for the comprehensive national dialogue soon, which will tackle many issues, topped by the issues of the south and Sa'ada, re-drafting the constitution and passing a law on transitional justice and national reconciliation.

Bin Omar pointed to the negative repercussions of the last year crisis in the humanitarian areas, stressing that the need of the international community's support to revive the Yemeni economy.
