Over 50 al-Qaeda militants killed in two-day clashes
[24/April/2012]

SANA'A, April 24 (Saba) - At least 52 militants of al-Qaeda have been killed during the last two days in Abyan and Shabwa governorates, a security source said Tuesday.

The source told the Defense Ministry website "26september.net" that said that 46 of the terrorists were killed in Abyan at clashes with armed troops, where the six others were killed by an air strike targeted yesterday [Monday] their car in Nissab district of Shabwa governorate.

The strike destroyed the car and killed them all, including three of al-Qaeda leaders Mohammad al-Deghari, his cousin, Hussein al-Deghari and Ali al-Qumaishi.

A military source in Abyan governorate said that the armed and security forces in cooperation with citizens have made significant progress in regaining the neighborhoods of Zinjibar city, asserting that a number of government facilities have been recaptured.

Dozens of terrorists have escaped out of Zinjibar, the source said, stressing "cleansing the city from the terrorists is a matter of time".
