SANA'A, Jan. 24 (Saba) - The Cabinet approved Tuesday opening an office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Yemen.
During its meeting chaired by Premier Mohammed Salem Basindwa, the cabinet commissioned the Legal Affairs Minister to contact with the OHCHR to present the office's terms of reference.
The explanatory memorandum submitted by Legal Affairs and Human Rights Ministers showed that opening OHCHR office in Yemen was stipulated in the OHCHR report and the decision of the Human Rights Council (HRC), which called on the Yemeni government and the OHCHR to develop a framework for continuing dialogue and strengthen cooperation in human rights field.
Moreover, the Cabinet got acquainted with a memorandum of the Legal Affairs Minister on the release of captives detained illegally, according to the executive mechanism of Gulf initiative.
The cabinet asserted the immediate release of all the illegal detainees in all jails and detention places all over the country and the closure of all unlawful detention places.
