SCER prepares for upcoming parliamentary election

SANA'A, Sep. 04 (Saba)- The Joint Executive Committee of the Supreme Committee for Elections and Referendum (SCER) and Education Ministry held on Saturday a meeting to implement the revising phase for the voters' lists for 2010.

The meeting was headed by the SCER member and Chairman of Planning and Technical Affairs Mohammed al Sayani.

During the meeting, the Joint Committee presented a report on an operational mechanism of formatting electoral commissions to implement the revising phase for the voters' lists for 2010.

In addition, the committee reviewed legal requirements and standards for selecting participants in those committees.

The Joint Committee approved detailed procedures and a technical team to implement the mechanism, as well as the deadlines for implementing the mechanism.

The mechanism was presented by heads of the planning and technical affairs, fatwa and legal affairs and parties and civil society sections.

It identified the roles and main tasks of the commission and ministry as well as conditions and standards for selecting those who will take part in the two processes of reviewing and correcting the voter lists.

The mechanism also identified the tasks of the high supervisory and joint executive committees and recommended a technical team from the two committees should be formed to help the joint executive committee.
