Yemen and UNDP discuss fisheries cooperation
[01/September/2010]

SANA'A, Sep. 01 (Saba) – Fisheries Minister Muhammad Saleh Shamlan met on Wednesday with the country UNDP resident representative Pratibha Mehta.

They discussed aspects of cooperation between Yemen and the UNDP in the fisheries field, with a focus on the economic diversification support project, the fish component, being implemented by the programme.

They agreed on frameworks the UNDP will focus during the coming period, topped by providing assistance to prepare and implement the national strategy for the fisheries sector, establish a research database and develop the fisheries management.

Mehta expressed the UNDP's readiness to support Yemen to finalize the strategy and implement projects within it as well as coordinating with donors to allocate more funds for the fisheries sector, which is one of the promising sectors in Yemen.
