SANA'A, August 31 (Saba) – Al-Qaeda attacks took place during last July targeted security sites and soldiers were the best evidence that Yemen is still paying the price of joining in global campaign against terrorism after September, 11, 2001.
Observers believe that terrorism is global threat and being combated by Arab and international institutions and that Yemen pays a tough price in combating terrorism while is not receiving an appropriate financing to facing it and achieving more successes.
Yemen was among the top countries asked the international community's help in combating terrorism but all its calls ignored by all supreme forces topped by USA and European states.
The attitudes changed since USS Cool explosion in 2000, and then all realized terrorism's dangers and Yemen credibility on necessity of fighting terrorism and since then has been considered prime partner in fighting terror.
Meanwhile, al-Qaeda has changed its attack tactics from targeting foreign interests to targeting military sites and institutions resulted in killing number of Yemeni leaders and soldiers.
Observers refer this change due to al-Qaeda wants to eradicating security leaders after its fear of precautionary operations against its sites and leaders in several areas, other than al-Qaeda's attempts spreading scare among military specially those who monitoring them.
The Yemeni losses are represented in killing numerous of military and security soldiers as well as the biggest losses in economic field as investors use these attacks as an excuse not to invest in Yemen.
Attacking security center in Aden is not new act by Al Qaeda who penetrated all its fortifications and overwhelmed CIA tactics. However, the incident will not affect Yemen's willingness to fight terrorism as national and moral right or as international commitment to free the world from terrorism.
Furthermore, Al-Qaeda danger does not only threaten security and stability of Yemen but also the security of the whole region and of the world because of its activities near of most significant oil production and marketing centers. Stationing in areas believe in its thoughts, such as Saudi community in sharp religious structure and also Yemen society due to its economic conditions, adds another danger to the world from al- Qaeda.
It's true that Yemen receives American and European's support in areas of training and rehabilitation and also support in economic field but this support does not fit the sacrifices Yemen provides in this field and what must get in return for its efforts in war against terrorism.
Although what was granted to Yemen is very important as partner in combating terrorism, the revenues are not enough to a country with a population of more 22 million and more of the half of them are youth and children.
Last week, USA announced rising its support to Yemen to nearly $300 million most of it was allocated for rehabilitation which was supervised by American institutions. Comparing with what was presented to other countries this confirms that Yemen pays an enormous cost in behalf of others in fighting terror.
Such circumstances require international intervention to direct investment as the best solution for all Yemeni crises. One can observe that gulf countries are affected by expansion of terrorism in Yemen. Although these countries always call to combat terrorism they do not work practically to avoid its spreading dangers.
All observers agree that Gulf countries' have supported Yemen, expecting results suggest that Yemen will face these problems alone. These problems would be tougher.
Qatar's investments in Atan Mountain, started by tourist project have got an important space in the capital Sana'a donated by the government. This confirms Yemen's welcoming to investments. So that all gulf states' worries over expanding their investments in Yemen are unjustifiable, taking into consideration, dangers facing investment in Yemen today maybe in gulf tomorrow.
It is important to indicate president's political advisor Dr. Abdul Karem Al-Ereani's warnings that problems of economic situation in Yemen would reach its effects to neighboring countries.
So, Gulf investments must have political decision to break unjustified fears from investing in Yemen and this will be by Gulf's kings and Emirs as it is expected of them in all times, if not Yemen would be a good environment for terror spreading.
Recently, President Ali Abdullah Saleh confirmed that Yemen is big and able to receive investment, and what is happening of problems is only limited in villages in a small part of the country.
However, USA and European Union must undertake its role in supporting investment in Yemen. Fear spread by the United States from Al-Awlaqi is clear to those who follow up terrorism in the world.
Recent terrorist attack against soldiers in Jaar reveals that al-Qaeda is spreading and using new tactics. It is also an indicator that al-Qaeda is active in southern parts of Yemen.
While media outlets report that there US and British military bases in Yemen to help in fight against al-Qaeda, Yemen denies any existence of such bases.
Yemen does not accept any foreign military existence in its land and it has strong security and military institutions able to carry out their tasks in combating terrorism, an authorized source told Yemen defense ministry's website 26sept.net.
