UN official praises Yemen efforts in facilitating int'l, local NGOs activities
[28/July/2010]

GENEVA, July 28 (Saba)- Yemen permanent representative to the UN in Geneva Ibrahim al-Adoufi has affirmed that Yemen works with many countries through ''Yemen Friends Group'' to encounter challenges it faces, topped by the rebellion in Saada.

In his speech at a meeting by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva and the Swiss mission in Geneva, al-Adoufi said that Yemen managed to overcome many challenges and difficulties in cooperation and coordination with the UN, donors, regional organizations and non-government NGOs.

He referred to the burden imposed on Yemen by more than 850 thousand Somali refugees, calling the international community to provide support for Yemen to be able to face this challenge, expressing appreciation of Yemen for donors for their support so far.

For her part, the former chairperson of OCHA hailed efforts of Yemen in facilitating tasks of the international and local organizations to reach many areas in Saada governorate in order to present aid for IDPs due to the Saada rebellion.

She called on the donor countries to send more support to back Yemen to meet the humanitarian needs of the displaced people.
