Yemen calls for more support to developing, least developed countries
[20/March/2010]

NEW YORK, March 20 (Saba) – Yemen has called on the international community to rally more unconditional financial support to boost development and stability in developing and the least developed countries.

The international community should assume its responsibility towards supporting the countries to accelerate meeting the millennium goals, said Khalid al-Yamani, the Yemeni acting delegate to the UN said in his speech on behalf the Group of 77 and China delivered at the opening of the Special High-Level Meeting of the Economic and Social Council with the Bretton Woods Institutions, the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

Yemen also stressed the need for improving leadership frameworks of international financial organizations to absorb more ordinary and equal representation for developing and least developed countries.

It, furthermore, underlined the role of the UN in dealing with financial and economic issues including the role in coordinating and reviewing cooperation between international financial organizations.

The meeting also dealt with ways to go ahead with the 2002 Mexico Conference and its decisions as well as the recommendations of the 2008 Doha meeting on development funding.
