Nigeria Leader Goodluck Dissolves Cabinet
[18/March/2010]

Abuja, March 18 (QNA) - Nigeria's Acting President Goodluck Jonathan has dissolved the country's cabinet.

A terse statement released by Nigeria's Information Minister Dora Akunyili said Goodluck Jonathan will soon announce a new cabinet.

Jonathan became acting president on February 19 after Umaru Yar'Adua, Nigeria's president, spent more than three months on medical treatment in a Saudi Arabian hospital for a heart condition.

The dissolution of the cabinet does not automatically lead to elections, which are scheduled for 2011.

The cabinet was picked by Yar'Adua and correspondents say Jonathan is now trying to stamp his own authority.
