IM calls for reinforcing Arab security cooperation to face current challenges
[16/March/2010]

TUNIS, March 16 (Saba)- Minister of Interior Mutahar al-Masri affirmed Tuesday the importance of reinforcing and developing Arab security cooperation in order to achieve integration in this vital sector to be able to confront all current security challenges facing the Arab national security.

In his speech at the 27th round of Arab Interior Ministers, currently held in Tunisia, he emphasized Yemen's stances, represented by President Ali Abdullah Saleh, which support the joint Arab solidarity process to realize all goals for the Arab nation.

The minister talked about the challenges which faced the Republic of Yemen recently and its negative consequences on development process, noting that if the government, with the help of neighbor and friend countries, did not firmly react to those challenges, the negative impacts would extend to cover a regional and international scope.

He referred to the rebellion of Saada as well as Al-Qaeda which Yemen is dealing with wisely, mentioning one more challenge Yemen is still suffering from represented by the influx of refugees from the Horn of Africa, in particular, who exceed 800 thousand.

In spite of all these challenges and difficulties, Yemen has achieved important achievements in facing them and turning them back, the minister noted.

"Yemen is an active partner with world countries, in general, and neighbor countries, in particular, in counterterrorism and hunting down terrorists as it approved a number of regional and international agreements on counterterrorism," he said.

He renewed the stable stance of Yemen as it always calls for the full implementation of international legitimacy decisions related to the Arab – Israeli conflict, affirming support of Yemen for Palestine, Iraq and Somalia to end their crises and refuse any foreign interference in their domestic affairs.
