Official: 7,000 CSOs in Yemen, 30% of them are inactive

TAIZ ,March 16 (Saba)- The number of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and charities in Yemen reached 7 thousands in 2009, the Undersecretary of Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Ali Saleh Abdullah said on Tuesday.

He pointed out that 30 percent of those organizations and charities are good and 35 percent face difficulties and 30 percent are inactive and in an incorrect legal status.

In a paper presented in the enlarged meeting of the CSOs and charities leaderships, organized in Taiz, Abdullah added that a lot of legal amendments including solutions for the current situations of the organizations would be issued soon.

He reviewed in his paper the role of the CSOs and the legal reference that govern their activities.

For his part, the Undersecretary of Taiz province Abdullah Amir called on the participants in the meeting to realize the social responsibility and reflect on the ground and to work together within the social partnership to adopt the society issues and to promote the level of charitable work.

In the framework of the meeting, a special workshop was organized on how to obtain the quality certificate ISO for the CSOs.
