Campaign of immunization against measles in Saada approved
[09/March/2010]
SANA'A,March 09(Saba)– The Cabinet approved on Tuesday implementation of a comprehensive campaign of immunization against measles in the province of Saada and a number of districts in the provinces of Hajjah ,Amran and Jawf.

This came in the Tuesday meeting, during which the Cabinet got acquainted with the report of Minister of Public Health and Population on the required measures to stop the potential spread of a measles epidemic in the province, which was prevented to get benefit from the last immunization campaign carried out by the ministry last year due to the acts of sabotage and terrorism.

The report pointed out that 157 cases of measles have been registered amid the displaced people in Saada province.

Yemen was about to declare the elimination of measles during the current year due to the significant decline in the number of cases infected with the disease, which amounted during 2008 to 8 cases only, explaining that the registration of such cases in the province of Saada and districts would delay Yemen declaration on the elimination of measles, which represents the fourth cause of childhood mortality in Yemen, the report noted.
