DAMASCUS, March 7 (Saba) -- Turkey would continue to play an important role in the Mideast peace process and would try and mediate between Israel and Turkey in that context, said the visiting Foreign Minister Ahmad Davutoglu here on Monday.
According to Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), this came during the guest's meeting with President Bashar Al-Assad.
The meeting between the two officials discussed means to develop bilateral ties.
The region developments were reviewed during the meeting with an assertion that it was a necessity for an immediate move to stop Israeli violations against Palestinians.
Regarding the ongoing elections in Iraq, President Al-Assad and Minister Davutoglu voiced hope that these elections would lead to security and stability in Iraq.
In press statements, Minister Davutoglu stated that his talks with President Al-Assad dealt with all the agreements signed between Turkey and Syria, within the frame of the Syrian-Turkish Strategic Council. The talks also touched upon the latest developments in the Middle East peace process indirect talks between Syria and Israel, and developments in the Palestinian situation, added the minister, reiterating that both countries' keenness on permanent peace in the region.
Davutoglu thanked President Al-Assad for Syria's trust in the Turkish role in Mideast peace process, reiterating Turkey's determination to go forward as far as peace achievement.
