"Silatch" funds project to train Yemenis for Gulf labor market
[02/March/2010]
SANA'A, March 02 (Saba) - Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training is to sign here next week with Qatari "Silatech" Foundation a cooperation agreement to train 100 thousand Yemeni nationals to be able to get jobs in the local and the GCC markets.

Speaking to Saba, the Deputy Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training Alawi Ba-Faqih pointed that the ministry would sign also an agreement with a British consulting company to study the current situation of the education outputs and the needs of the Gulf labor market in order to work to provide those needs.

In addition to promote the level of training programs in the ministry's institutions through the Silatech-funded project to train 100 thousand of the education outputs and jobless people as a first phase in the various vocational and technical areas to enable them to compete in the GCC labor markets, Ba-Faqih added.

During its visit to Yemen, the Silatech foundation has found skilled Yemeni labor but it is not trained enough to enter the competition in the Gulf market, Ba-Faqih noted.

He affirmed that the ministry within its strategy for 2010 would assign a special institute in each governorate for training the outputs of the technical and vocational education in order to meet the needs of the labor market.

"Silatech" is a global initiative aimed at creating job opportunities for youth by providing the link between them and employers and encouraging them to implement their own business as set in its founding document.
