Comoros, Yemen discuss resuming Yemenia flights to Moroni

MORONI, Dec. 01 (Saba) - Yemen and Comoros have discussed resuming the Yemeni airlines "Yemenia" flights to the Comorian capital Moroni that were suspended after the Yemenia airliner crash of the Comorian coasts on June 30.

During his meeting with the Yemenia delegation visiting Moroni to participate in the funerals were held in Comoros Sunday for other crash victims, Comorian President Ahmed Abdullah Sambi has praised the distinctive services the Yemeni airlines offers to the Comorian people.

President Sambi affirmed his country's keenness on enhancing the bilateral ties with Yemen in all areas, including the air transportation.

In return, the head of the Yemenia delegation, head of the air services, Wazir al-Ya'abori voiced the company readiness to re-operate the flights to Moroni, valuing the facilities the Comorian government offer to the company.

Yemenia is the only air carrier to the Comoros for years.

Funerals were held in Comoros on Sunday for the Yemenia jetliner crash victims. About 54 bodies were handed to their families who arrived in the capital of Moroni on Saturday to lay them to rest.

Comorian President Ahmed Abdullah Sambi who attended the burials said that whatever the cause of the June 30 crash that killed 152 passengers and crew members, the incident remains an act of God.

On Saturday, a Yemenia jetliner carried 203 families to Moroni for the burials of their relatives.

The only survivor from the tragedy was a 14-year-old French teenager.

The Yemenia has compensated the families of the victims, 20,000 euros each.
