USA stands by Yemen to encounter terrorism
[10/November/2009]

SANA'A, Nov. 10 (Saba) - The USA has affirmed that it stands by Yemen to encounter terrorism.

Director of Planning in the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Jeffrey Smith, head of the American side in the second Yemeni-American General Staff Talks, has said that the USA shares the terrorist threats with Yemen, thanking the Yemen's cooperation in combating terrorism and marine piracy.

Smith voiced his country's desire to broaden the cooperation with Yemen to realize the security and stability in the region.

He also confirmed the USA support to Yemen's unity and stability.

He asserted the importance of such talks that have commenced last year in Washington to exchange the views relating to the regional issues, topped by the terrorism and piracy to be able to tackle them.

In the opening session of the two-day talks, Chief of the General Staff Ahmed al-Ashwal, head of the Yemen side in the talks, called on mobilizing all good efforts to face and defeat terrorism.

He affirmed that the talks are very important for Yemen, especially at the time when Yemen is facing many challenges, either from al-Qaeda or al-Houthi rebellion.

He highlighted the Yemeni-American cooperation aiming to stabilize the region, stressing the necessity of coordination between the region's countries with the great countries to carry out their duties towards the world security.
