Dubai Police seize 1.5 million drug pills in first 9 months of 09
[07/November/2009]
DUBAI, Nov. 07 (Saba) - Dubai Police's anti-narcotics teams seized around 1.5 million drug pills at a total market value of AED 15 million in the first nine months of 2009, in different cases that involved defendants from 77 countries, a senior officer said.

Major General Abdul Al Jalil Mahdi Al Asmawi, Director of Anti-Narcotics section at Dubai Police was quoted by Emirates News Agency (WAM) as saying that the drug dealers focused their illicit businesses recently on drug pills, produced in some Asian and Arab countries, with the aim of trafficking them to the UAE, given its geographic location and the economic growth seen here.

"Thanks to the vigilance of police personnel and the close coordination between different police departments in the UAE, Dubai Police managed to uncover and foil several drug trafficking operations," he added.
