Yemen seeks MIGA improved role

ISTANBUL, Oct. 07 (Saba) - Head of the Investment Authority Salah al-Attar has met with Executive Vice President of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, a member of the World Bank Group, Izumi Kobayashi.

The meeting held on the margins of the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF, reviewed investment climate in Yemen, with al-Attar stressing the importance of activating the MIGA role in the country.

He hoped the MIGA offer guarantees for private investment in Yemen, pointing to the need for guaranteeing investment in general and Arabian Gulf investment in particular in the country.

Al-Attar also invited Kobayashi to the Investment Conference " Yemen the Gate of the World" to be held on 11-12 November in Yemen's business capital of Aden.

The event may provide the agency with the suitable opportunity to show its services for local and foreign participants, he said.

For his part, Kobayashi expressed his agency's readiness to work on more investment guaranteeing in Yemen, adding the agency would be interested in attending the Aden conference.

On the other hand, al-Attar met with Deputy Chairman of the International Finance Corporation Janamitra Devan.

The two discussed progress on implementation of IFC-funded projects in Yemen as well as other topics including the investment climate, investor service center project in Aden, the project of reviewing investment legislative and institutional structure.
