GENEVA, June 12, (Saba)- Chairman of Yemen Labour Union (YLU) Mohammed al-Jadri has affirmed the importance to face labour challenges due to the international financial crisis.

He pointed out, during his speech at the 98th round of the International Labour Conference held in Geneva, that the international financial crisis has affected governments worldwide and consequently affected the nations, indicating that Yemen is one of the affected countries as it depends on oil for economic revenues.

He also talked about efforts of the YLU in cooperation with the government so that not to allow discharge of labourers and to protect their work rights.

Al-Jadri made clear that the union signed in July 2008 agreement of the National Program of Proper Labour for 2009-2011 which was presented by the International Labour Organization.

He valued efforts of the ILO and international unions and syndicates in reducing negative impacts of the economic reforms and international crisis on consumers, noting work of the ILO to establish an international convention for job opportunities with the aim of stimulating economy and supporting working families.

He also praised what has been achieved in the humanitarian and legal aspects, coming first syndicate equality, freedoms and rights as well as fighting child labour and eliminating descrimination, affirming the importance of confronting any violation against human rights and to stand against terrorism.
