SANA'A, Jan. 18 (Saba)- Half million women in the world die annually and eight women die per day in Yemen because of pregnancy and delivery complications, says a report issued by the United Nation Children Fund recently.
The report, which was discussed by UNICEF's Information Specialist in Sana'a Nasim al-Rahman during a press conference held here on Sunday, included topics related to mothers and newborns health, comments and measures for saving their lives via providing them with nutrition and enlightening on purity.
He pointed out reasons of increasing mortality ratio among mothers which include early marriage, early pregnancy, international fertility rates, infection with Aids and sex violence. He noted that girl education is one of ideal means for reducing poverty and contribution in creating good health environment to mothers and newborns.
He affirmed that UNICEF's reports issued on 2004 indicated that nearly 3,7 million newborns die during the first 28 days of life. He also affirmed that the organization is hardly working on reducing mortality level among mothers and newborn. The organization also coordinates with social affairs ministry for carrying out program of house care of the mother and the child.
He indicated that the organization has set out a project for providing clean health services in five governorates ( Taiz, Lahj, Ebb, Dhale'a and Hudeidah) and would last till 2011.
