No tyranny in my term, President Saleh says

SANA'A, Nov. 26 (Saba) - "No tyranny in my term but a fair democratic ruling that I accepted to the people, including opposition", President Ali Abdullah Saleh said on Wednesday.

In an interview with the Kuwaiti paper "al-Syasiah" published on Wednesday, President Saleh asserted that the development process will not stop because the opposition is not satisfied.

"Development process moves forwarded very well in all fields", he highlighted, adding that great achievements have been made in Yemen during the last three decades, including the "Yemeni unification" which is the greatest of them.

He talked about the Yemeni success in democracy and freedom of opinion and expression, stressing that the democratic option chosen by the Yemenis is unwavering.

Speaking about the global financial crisis, president affirmed that the Yemen is not affected with, except in dropping down the oil exports revenues due to the decline in the international oil prices, making clear to the Yemen's dependence on the liquefied gas project that will initiate exporting gas next year.

The liquefied gas project will compensate the decline in the oil exports revenues resulted from the decline in the Yemen's oil production (400,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 280,000 bpd), he said.

"Yemen is rich of its oil and gas exploration besides its other resources", the president said, highlighting that the thirty companies working in Yemen in field of oil exploration and all of them reported affirmative indicators.

He made reference to the investment opportunities, saying that Yemen has many promising investment opportunities, pointing out that Yemen is still continuing updating its laws to meet with the investment's requirements and attract the capitals, particularly from the Gulf States.

Regarding the Yemeni-Gulf relations, President Saleh revealed that he would send a letter to the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the coming summit in Oman related to determining the requirements to qualify Yemen to be a full member in the GCC as well as the GCC aid to rehabilitate the country, describing the Gulf-Yemeni relations as "very excellent".

The president Saleh considered the piracy acts in the international waters in the Aden Gulf as a kind of terrorism, reminding that he has already worn of the perils of such acts.

He accented that he has suggested to U.S. and Europe to support the re-stabilize and bring peace bake to Somalia as well as assist it in reconstructing its country and institutions to avoid the negative impacts of the Somali's deterioration, indicating that these advices were not responded.

The President Saleh dealt, during the interview, with several economic and political developments in Yemen and the country's attitudes towards some events in the regional and international arenas.
