Regional workshop on ship ballast water management begins
[23/November/2008]

ADEN, Nov. 23 (Saba) - A Saudi delegation from the General Presidency of Metrology and Environment Protection arrived on Sunday in Aden to take part in a regional workshop on ballast water managemen in ships.

The workshop which started on Sunday in the Yemeni Commercial Capital of Aden, was organized by General Authority for Maritime Affairs in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization and the Regional Authority for the Red Sea Protection.

It comes as recently piracy has soared with at least more 30 ships hijacked this year. Pirates recently captured a Saudi vessel carrying 2 million barrels of oil worth $ 100 million. Negotiations betwen the vessel owners and pirates are going on with experts to safeguard the release of the ship.
