WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Saba) – Yemen has taken part in the talks that were held between the Arab Bank Governors and the World Bank in Washington.
The Yemeni delegation, which participated in the meeting that was held on the margins of the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, included deputy prime minister Abdul Karim al-Arhabi, Finance minister Noman al-Suhaibi, the Yemeni Central Bank Ahmed Abdul Rahman al-Samawi and Yemen's ambassador to Washington Abdul Wahab Abdullah al-Hajri.
The talks focused on the latest international developments, especially those related to dimensions of the global food crisis and consequences of the financial markets slump.
The participants put an emphasis on speeding up implementation of the Arab World Initiative between the World Bank and regional development banks, civil society, private sector representatives and governments.
The meeting brought up Middle East issues particularly those in relation to unemployment and the flow of capitals into the area, supporting Islamic financial aid as well as employing Arab cadres in the World Bank at country and international levels.
The meeting, furthermore, discussed mechanisms of operation of the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation to serve member states aspirations.
President of the WB Robert Zolik said the bank is not facing liquidity problems, pointing out that the deposits at the bank can meet its obligations toward member states.
Zolik said Yemen has been chosen to benefit from the bank emergent finance to deal with consequences of the global food crisis. The bank has allocated $ 10 million in late July to support the social security network in the country, he said.
