Parliament delegation heads to Syria

SANA'A, Oct 06 (Saba) – Parliament secretary general Abdullah Ahmed Sufan at the head of a parliamentary delegation headed on Monday for Syria's capital, Damascus.

The delegation will take part in the meetings of the executive committee affiliated with the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU) and the legal committee of general secretaries of the AIPU.

Sufan said the two meetings would be held separately from 7 to 9 October, adding the meeting of the legal committee of general secretaries of the Arab parliaments would focus on issues in relation to improving and activating mechanism to promote the work of the general secretariats of Arab parliaments at local and national levels for the AIPU member states.

On the executive committee of the AIPU, Sufan said the committee was set up at the AIPU last meeting in Iraq with a member from every member state.

The committee is responsible for discussing the schedules of the Arab Parliament conference agenda before being held as well as requests of topics to be proposed by members as additional terms in the agenda.

The committee also observes the work of the AIPU General Secretary and studies its proposals and discusses projects linked to the budget of the parliament and the salaries of its general secretary as well as considering the eligibility of candidates for the post of the AIPU secretary general and assistant secretary general.
