SANA'A, Oct 06 (Saba) - The archaeologist court has released a Jordanian, the legendary foreign artifacts smuggler, who was reservedly detained over charges linked to smuggling Yemeni ancient relics, the GPC-run almotamar.net has reported.
Sameer Hamad was arrested in early June, placed under house arrest in Sana'a and released few days before his trial, one of the most important smuggling cases in the country, resumed.
Judicial sources noted that Hamad was released late in September unjustifiably and in contradiction with a previous ruling which provided for jailing him for continuous trading with Yemeni ancient relics and that was built on a lawsuit filed by a man from Jawf province in which he appealed to the court to order Hamad pay a sum of $ 19 thousand as cost of artifacts Hamad had bought from him.
Sameer Hamad, a Jordanian national, was held in June in Sana'a after his return from Hadramout from where he brought wood and copper loads. He was imprisoned in the reserve prison after he violated a ruling that imposed on him not to leave Sana'a.
