President Saleh condoles Egyptian counterpart over rocky collapse victims

SANA'A, Sep. 07 (Saba) - President Ali Abdullah Saleh sent on Sunday a cable of condolences to Egyptian President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak over victims of a rocky collapse took place in el-Doweiqa slum area in eastern Cairo.

President Saleh expressed his deep sorrow over the catastrophic collapse of rocks on the housing area in Cairo, which claimed the lives of 15 people and more than 22 wounded.

"On behalf of Yemen's government and people, we express deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the brotherly Egyptian people over this catastrophic accident", said Saleh.

A 30-metre-high rock crashed down onto more than 30 flimsy homes in el-Doweiqa slum area. Nearly 500 people were still buried under the rubble of the houses.

The rock fall happened as people were asleep near dawn on Saturday.
