NCBCBW organizes course on banning chemical weapons

SANA'A, June 24 (Saba)-The National Committee of Banning Chemical and Biological Weapons (NCBCBW) organized in cooperation with Organization of Banning Chemical Weapons a three-day course on these weapons.

In the opening session of the course on Tuesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abu Bakr al Qirbi affirmed importance of increasing the cooperation between the Yemen and the organization to spread
awareness about risks of such weapons which might region and Yemen subject to.

This important issue needs for regional and international cooperation to protect world stability and security, al-Qirbi said.

For his part, the head of the national committee Qasam al-Shibani said that the Customs Authority is the authorized body to check up goods and equipment entering the nation.

He said the course reflects concern of Yemen to activate Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) that Yemen ratified in 2000.

Some 30 employees of Customs Authority are taking part in the course, which will focus on the CWC and organization of banning chemical weapons as well as role of the national committee.

Topic of activating role of customs authority in boosting its systems to determine chemical materials in accordance with the convention.
