SANA'A, May 13 (Saba) - The Ministry of Electricity and Energy and the International Financing Corporation singed on Tuesday an agreement of giving Yemen consultations regarding the establishment of gas-generated electricity stations.

The agreement, signed by Minster of Electricity and Energy Mustapha Bahran and the general manager of IFC's Private Enterprise Partnership in Middle-East and North Africa Jasper Kjaer, stipulates that IFC will supervise the procedures of a tender related to the establishment of an electricity station in Belhaf in Shabwa.

The IFC will also help Ministry of Electricity encourage private sector to contribute to setting up an independent facility for generating electricity by gas as well as presenting technical assistances and consultations over ways of offering bids to establish more gas electricity stations.

Bahran appreciated the cooperation of IFC with Yemen to implement the project. "Yemen seeks through this agreement to benefit from IFC's consultative services in this regard", said Bahran, pointing that the project will be the first to be constructed, owned and operated by private sector.

Jasper said the International Financing Corporation is interested in this project due to increasing demand of power in Yemen. he said the IFC is ready to get more agreements and partnerships with the Yemeni government.
