Fierce battles between forces and rebels in Amran kill 26
[13 May 2008]

SANA'A, May 13 (Saba) – At least 26 including 12 soldiers have been killed in fierce clashes between the government forces and the loyalists of Abdul Malik al-Houthi at the Harf Sufyan district in Amran province in the past few days, the independent newsyemen.net has reported.

Local sources said the rebels could bomb a tank and let two others broken down and defuse four domestic-made bombs at the Hawari bridge on the road to Saada.

A soldier also died when a military vehicle to transport soldiers that he was driving crashed with a patrol.

Furthermore, some causalities were reported after the military forces raided some areas in the province.

On the other hand, two of the al-Houthi loyalists handed in themselves to Sheikh Hussein al-Ahmer after pitched battles at the Houth district in Amran.

Few days ago, some rebels tried to block the way of military reinforcements to Saada which in turn led the forces to raid the incident site with canon mortars.
